Stories Across the Globe is a collaborative project led from the UK, which links up children in schools in different countries. Primary and secondary school children in two areas of England, UK made connections with children in Pakistan, Fijian Islands, and Norway. First, they got to know about one another’s lives through sending filmed messages, photos and letters, and asked and answered questions. They also learned about the environments they lived in and the impacts of climate change. The questions they asked one another – and also those they put to our ‘friendly scientist’ – told the researchers a lot about what children’s concerns and priorities are, while their learning encompassed geography, science, and English. The next step was to create some stories and pictures to share, which are contained in this picture book. The stories reflect children’s concerns about climate change, while also showcasing their creativity and imaginative responses to our shared global crisis. They also demonstrate empathy and show how they have learned from listening to other children, who are ‘just like us’, but in a different part of the world. The book is also available at New book of children’s pictures and stories! | stories2connect
The project is led by Prof Candice Satchwell and Bob Walley from University of Lancashire, UK. You can get in touch at CSatchwell@lancashire.ac.uk.
