Alex, Spring Awakening
Long Run Park, Louisville, Kentucky
I was inspired while watching the water ripple around these young plants shooting up from the creek bed. I thought it was the perfect example of ripple effects because you can literally see the water creating bubbles and effects that spread out and touch everything around them. It made me think about how one small action in nature can have a bigger impact than you’d expect. To me, this photo shows that ripple effects are happening all around us in nature and we just have to slow down and look closely enough to notice and appreciate them.

Jayus, Bathe Me Clean
Big Rock, Cherokee Park, Louisville, Kentucky
The river is polluted but is also beautiful, I was inspired by how water brings people together, it’s so vital to us as humans, we need water to live but we also abuse what’s given to us.

Adeline, Sunlight in the Muddy Water

I took this photo because I wanted to see the observation of how sunlight can reflect muddy waters in my area, and this can show the ripples in the mud water.

Lily, Water Replenishes
Douglass Community Center, Louisville, Kentucky
This photo shows how water sustains life, and it is important that we sustain its production in return. Water is a recyclable resource, but we cannot take it for granted. The moment I captured was a brief moment of stillness in the midst of a rainstorm. The blue of the recycling bin reminded me of the beauty I see in water.

Flora, Prosperity
A Road Near Home, Louisville, Kentucky
This photo is of a simple street after rain, I believe that there is beauty in ordinary scenes and daily life, conveying emotions and deep meaning without a need for outstanding qualities. This charm is represented in water itself, which this photo attempts to portray. Water enables growth and allows people to thrive, from settlements to large cities, water is the core of all life, the reason we are able to prosper as we do. Every rain has power and encourages growth, life is not driven by massive changes, but by simple and ordinary forces. This photo is quite representative of that, with puddles and ripples indicating normal weather patterns, with lush greenery across the scene and signs of urban life, indicating that water supports not just natural life, but economic and social development.

Tirzah, Rinsing the Day Away
Louisville, Kentucky
What inspired me to take this photo was the privilege I have to take clean showers every night. It is something I take advantage of and I am so thankful for it. Having clean water to clean myself with is something that not everyone has and I wish everyone did and I am so thankful that our city has clean water. This picture represents the theme of the contest by showing how I appreciate the water we have, and that I can be cleaned every day because of it.

Evangeline, Water Means Food
My Backyard, Louisville, Kentucky
This photo shows water helping to grow a tomato. Without water we would have no food or life. To me water means life. Water helps to grow food for the environment. This is what water means to me.

Vihaan, Louisville On the Water
North Sixth Street, Louisville, Kentucky
My Photo captures the reflection of downtown buildings, including the iconic 400 West Market skyscraper, shimmering in pooled water near the Ohio River. One afternoon my father and I were near the Galt House photographing along the Ohio when we came across an area covered with red tiles and large puddles due to a recent rainstorm. When I looked down a crystal-clear mirror peered back at me- Big blue sky, buildings, It was a whole new world right at my feet. My inspiration- Water plays a big role in the identity, culture, and heritage of our city. I feel that water is a reflection of our society and lives. To me, water is a part of our city’s past and future, and all that is reflected in the picture I took. The reflection in the puddle mirrors not only the skyline, but also who we are and the identity of this city.

Henry, Running Water
Louisville Waterworks Museum, Louisville, Kentucky
I was inspired to take this photo of the water fountain because the science phenomenon of Laminar flow because I think it looks cool and water is vital to me because we all need it to survive. I think Louisville water tastes better than all the rest. I like having access to water that is not polluted and tastes great because when I lived in Chicago we had to filter for lead in the water. This photo reminds me to help keep our rivers and streams clean and pick up trash whenever I see it near water and be grateful that we can have clean drinking water whenever we need it.

Franklin, Lake of Mirrors
Marengo Caves, Marengo, Indiana
Water means a lot to me because without it we would not have caves like Mammoth Cave and Marengo cave which I really like to explore. Caves are formed when water goes through rock and creates a tunnel. Don`t touch cave rocks because the natural oil from our hands will hurt it. It is possible humans can hurt nature more than nature hurts us. Please help us protect nature`s amazing creations like Marengo Cave from harm.

Bowie, Tucked Away, Waterfall
Broad Run Park, Louisville, Kentucky
This picture of a waterfall. I was inspired to take this photo because of how beautiful it looked behind the waterfall. This represents the theme because there is clear water. It wouldn’t be so lovely if this water weren’t so clean.

This photo represents the beauty and power of both water and the sun. I think the colors are so beautiful and almost magical, and I am so lucky to see this in my backyard.

When I saw the water in this photo I felt the memories of the beach with my family.

Tiana, River of Light
Second Street Bridge, Louisville, Kentucky
To our family, the Ohio River is more than just a view; it is the heart of Louisville. I captured this sunset at the bridge to show how the river harmonizes with our city. The golden reflection on the water represents the warmth and energy that the river brings to our community every day.

James, The Power of Water
Falls of the Ohio, Clarksville, Indiana
Water is very powerful. It can help us by taking boats up and down the river. It gives us drinking water. Water can also be dangerous. When we get too much rain, the river can flood and do a lot of damage. I wanted to take this picture because I love water and I love to swim. I want people to know that water can be fun but you can also drown in it.
